📍 Imagine this: you come across a link to a masterclass or a webinar. The topic seems useful. But then you check the guest list or see that the host is a CFO or industry expert. Suddenly you feel nervous. “They’re too qualified… what will I say?” And so you skip it.
By not showing up, you miss the chance to learn, connect, and unlock new opportunities.
I know this feeling because it happened to me many times. But once I understood the power of networking, my entire career shifted. And today, I want to show you how networking transformed my journey — and how it can change yours too.
From Avoiding People to Building a Community
Hello dear accountants, this is your friend Divyesh Dave, welcoming you back to another episode of The Accountant Show, the podcast of our community The Accountant Hub.
Here, I help accountants and finance professionals gain clarity, confidence, and high-income skills so they can build successful careers in today’s competitive world.
When I started my career, I was an introvert. If I saw seminars with senior leaders, I stayed away. I thought, “What will I say? I don’t belong there.”
But that avoidance cost me dearly. I missed mentors, guidance, and opportunities.
Things changed when I began using LinkedIn actively and later created The Accountant Hub to stay connected with professionals in our domain. Today, I have more than 23,000 followers and a VIP community with nearly 1,000 members.
And here’s the surprising part: HR managers now DM me about job opportunities. Senior managers approach me for partnerships. Consultants reach out to collaborate. All of this came organically — no ads, no paid promotions — just through genuine networking.
That’s when I realized something powerful:
👉 Networking is not about spamming resumes or begging for jobs. It’s about building relationships, sharing value, and growing together.
Why Networking Matters for Accountants
In today’s digital world, networking is more than exchanging contacts. It’s about growing together. And the benefits are huge:
🚀 More career opportunities – job offers or leads may land directly in your inbox.
💡 Insights from experts – you get quick solutions from those who’ve already faced your challenges.
💬 Confidence booster – especially if you’re introverted, conversations sharpen your skills.
📚 Continuous learning – peers and mentors expose you to new ideas and trends.
❤️ Support system – professional and emotional support from like-minded peers.
If you want faster growth in your accounting career, you cannot afford to ignore networking.
How to Network Effectively as an Accountant
So how do you do it? Let me share six practical strategies that worked for me:
1. Build Organically on LinkedIn
LinkedIn is the best professional platform today. Don’t randomly add people. Connect with accountants, CFOs, and finance leaders. Send a short introduction message. Aim to start genuine conversations. Even connecting with just 3–4 professionals daily builds a strong network over time.
2. Join Networking Events and Webinars
Both offline and online. Everyone there is looking to connect and learn, so don’t shy away. Even if you’re nervous, remember — the room is full of people just like you.
3. Engage in Communities
Join communities like The Accountant Hub. Don’t just join — participate. Comment on posts, share insights, and encourage others. Communities grow when people contribute.
4. Share Your Expertise
Networking is two-way. Don’t only consume — give back. Share your learnings, case studies, or even small insights on LinkedIn. When people see you adding value, they remember you.
5. Create Your Own Inner Circle
Start small: maybe a WhatsApp group with peers or a LinkedIn group. Share resources, discuss exam prep, or talk about industry updates. I did this with The Accountant Hub — today it’s a growing knowledge-sharing hub with hundreds of active members.
6. Have a Clear Vision or Pitch
Even if it’s simple, be clear about what you stand for. My vision is: “Helping accountants and finance professionals become confident global accountants with clarity, confidence, and high-income skills.” That clarity makes networking purposeful.
The Right Mindset for Networking
Strategies matter, but mindset matters more.
Networking is not about what you can get — it’s about what you can give.
Here are four principles I follow:
🤝 Value first attitude – don’t treat everyone as a customer or opportunity.
👂 Listen more – true connections happen when you understand others.
💎 Be authentic – don’t fake it, be genuine and consistent.
🌱 Aim for win-win – relationships should benefit both sides.
When you adopt this mindset, networking becomes natural, enjoyable, and powerful.
Final Thoughts
If you’re serious about networking, don’t do it alone. Surround yourself with professionals walking the same path.
That’s exactly why I created The Accountant Hub — a LinkedIn VIP community where accountants and finance professionals share knowledge, opportunities, and support each other’s growth.
